Kareena Kapoor is born on 21st September, 1980 in Mumbai. Her real name is Kareena Randhir Kapoor and nick name is Bebo.
She is the second daughter of actress Babita Kapoor, and actor Randhir Kapoor. Her elder sister, Karisma Kapoor, who was also a big star in Bollywood.
She is born in a family that have been actors for generations, including her paternal great-grandfather, Prithviraj Kapoor; her grandfather, Raj Kapoor; her paternal uncles, Shammi, Shashi, Rishi, and Rajiv; as well as aunt, Neetu Singh, & Jennifer Kendall, the wives of Rishi and Shashi respectively. On her maternal side, her grandfather, Hari Shivdasani, and aunt, Sadhana, have been actors in their own rights.
As a child she studied in Jamnabai Narsee School in Juhu, Mumbai, and thereafter was enrolled in Dehra Dun's prestigious Welham Girls' Boarding School. Then she re-located to Harvard for approximately 3 months to take a course in Information Technology and Microcomputers. Upon her return to India, she joined the Government Law College in Churchgate, Mumbai. However, after completing one year at Churchgate, Kapoor realized that she was not inclined towards academics and returned to her initial plan to become an actress. She began training at an acting institute in Andheri, mentored by Kishore Namit Kapoor, a member of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).
Her dad, Randhir is very protective towards his daughters and wanted both of them to keep away from acting, get married, and settle down, as per the Kapoor family tradition. This led to irreconcilable differences between her parents, ultimately leading to a divorce, with both sisters leaving their dad to live with their mom.
Kareena faced the media spotlight from a very young age, but did not make her acting debut until the 2000 film Refugee. Her film debut was J.P. Dutta's war drama Refugee in the year 2000 along with the debut of Amitabh Bachchan's son, Abhishek Bachchan.
Her portrayal of a sex worker in Chameli (2004) proved to be the turning point in her career and she was later noted for her performances in the critically acclaimed Dev (2004) and Omkara (2006). Kareena Kapoor, still fresh from the success of her recent releases, is all smiles.
Her off-screen life, including her relationship with actor Saif Ali Khan, is the subject of wide media coverage in India. Has lived secretly with Saif Ali Khan. At the Lakme Fashion Awards in October 2007 they made their liaison official. Before Saif, she was dating with Shahid Kapoor since 2004 but they broke up.

In 2009, a poll conducted by the newspaper DNA, she was voted as one of India's most popular icons. According to the UK magazine Eastern Eye, Kapoor was ranked fourth in the list of "Asia's Sexiest Women" in 2009; she had been previously ranked eighth in 2007 and third in 2008. She became the only actress to be featured on CNN Go's list of "Who Mattered Most in India" and was described as "India's Most Beautiful Woman" by People in 2010.
In July 2010, Kapoor was placed eighth in Filmfare Magazine's annual power list, an achievement she repeated from the previous year, where she was ranked at number ten.
During her career, Kapoor has received five Filmfare awards for her performances in 'Refugee', 'Chameli', 'Dev', and 'Omkara'.
