Sridevi was a great Indian actress. She worked in a large number of Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films.

Sridevi was born on the 13th of August in 1963 at Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu. Her real name is "Sridevi Ayyapan".

Sridevi made her first appearance as a child artist in the Tamil film Kandhan Karunai (1967).

In the year 1976, she got a major break in the Tamil movies in the lead role. Here, she got the opportunity to work with two great actors, namely Kamal Hassan and Rajnikanth.


In the year 1978, she made her entry in the Hindi films. Her debut Hindi film was Solva Saawan, which unfortunately did not succeed. But, her second film Himmatwala was a super duper hit. The movie made her a star overnight. Thereafter, she signed the film Sadma, which brought her lot of appreciation. During 1980s, she gave fabulous performances, which were admired by all. Her film Chandni was the biggest hit, which brought her in the list of one of the highest paid actresses of Bollywood. She worked in a number of films and has had a very prosperous career.


She has won lot of awards like FilmFare Award (South) for Tamil Film Meendum Kokila, Filmfare Best Actress Award for Chaalbaaz, Filmfare Best Actress Award for Lamhe, FilmFare Award for Telugu Film Kshana Kshanam, Nandi Award for Telugu Film Kshana Kshanam, Giant Awards for Contribution to Hindi Cinema, MAMI Award for Excellent Contribution to Hindi Cinema, Vamsee Art Theatres International's Lifetime Achievement Award, Toronto Best Actress Award for Devaragam, and more.


After performing in Judaai, she took a break from the film industry, for upbringing her two daughters. After six years, she has appeared in the TV series 'Malini Iyer', judged a TV show 'Kaboom' as well as appeared in numerous print and TV ads. She is also on the Board of Directors of the Asian Academy of Film & Television.

Sridevi went on to get married Boney Kapoor, on 2nd June 1996. She has two daughters named Jhanvi and Khushi, both named after the heroines in husband Boney Kapoor's films Judaai (1997) and Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai (2000).

Sridevi was offered a role in Jurassic Park by Steven Spielberg. She refused because it wasn't a starring role and it would have meant taking a hiatus from Bollywood, at a time, when she was at the peak of her career.


At the height of her career, Sridevi received countless marriage proposals from wealthy American and British born Indians who saw her as the perfect trophy wife. One of her rumored suitors was Hollywood movie producer Ashok Amritraj.
