Gouthami is an Indian actress. She has acted in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi and Kannada films. Once Gauthami was the shining heroine of South Indian film industry and successfully fighting an intense battle against breast cancer.

Gouthami's complete name is Gouthami Tadimalla. She was born on 2nd July, 1968 in Tadimalla village in West Godavari district in Andra Pradesh.

She was studying at GITAM College in Visakhapatnam (also known as Vizag), Andhra Pradesh when she received her first film offer.

She was introduced to Tamil films through Guru Shishyan, a film that starred Rajnikanth. She was most active in Tamil cinema from the late 1980's to the mid-90s and was a competitor to the other heroines of the time, Kushboo and Bhanupriya.


Her filmography includes Thevar Magan, as well as Mani Ratnam's Iruvar (1997), which co-starred Mohanlal, Prakash Raj, Aishwarya Rai, Tabu, Nasser and Revathi.


She has acted in the Kannada films Elu Suttina Kote, Chikkejamana and Cheluva, and in the Hindi movies. Her first film was in Hindi, Andha Kanoon (1983), where she made only a guest appearance. Her other Bollywood ventures include Naqab (1989), Pyar Hua Chori Chori (1992), Trimurti (1995), Veer (1995) etc.


Before this, she had done a few movies in Malayalam, notably her highness Abdulla (starring Mohanlal), Dhruvam (starring Mammootty), and Daddy (opposite Arvind Swamy). Her role in Sukrutham was penned by M.T. Vasudevan Nair.

She has acted in the Tamil serial Indira in the lead role. She made a guest appearance in the song "Chikku Bukku Railu" with Prabhu Deva in the film Gentleman. She had hosted a talk show in Sun TV titled Anbudan which was launched to compete with Koffee with Anu running on STAR Vijay. She acted in the serial Abhirami which was telecast on Kalingar TV.

Rumours arose that Gautami has affair with Kamal Hassan, who has already divorced his wife Sarika a long time back . Initially, both denied the fact but now, Kamal Hassan has accepted their affair.


Kamal Hassan and Gautamis friendship go a long time back. They worked together in many movies and had a spectacular onscreen chemistry. One of the most memorable films in which the pair appeared is Thevarmagan. Kamal had helped her during her traumatic breast cancer experience and the pair have been in a domestic relationship since 2005. Along with Shruti and Akshara, Gouthami's daughter, Subbalakshmi, from an annulled marriage also lives with them.

Gautami won the Best Costume Designer award for Dasavatharam in 2008 and she recieved STAR Vijay Award for "Best Costume Designer" for the movie Dasavathaaram in 2009
